REPORT – Wed 23rd July vs Gresham Home

On a gloriously sunny evening at Knightwood, despite losing the toss and being asked to bat, Blades took full advantage with another good start from Toon and Farmer, both openers retiring in good time to allow Hunter and Whitear to continue the good work before retiring themselves. The Blades were 113-0 from 14 overs following as fine a mix of controlled hitting and placement backed by good running as you are likely to see from a Blades top four. But they were not finished there as Underwood and Richardson combined to ensure there would be no trademark collapse with some tidy shots until finally Underwood perished trying to push the score on – joy for Gresham after 19.1 overs! Hamer joined Richardson at the crease to nudge the score on to an impressive 158-1 from 20 overs.

With their tails up, Blades set about defending their total in equally fine fashion with Lowe striking early and Farmer, unfazed by his first ball being twatted launched for six, hitting back by removing a couple more. Wickets continued to fall following the introduction of Terry and Meering with runs now hard to come by for Gresham. Whitear and then Underwood took wickets to leave Gresham all out for 72 and round off a fantastic team performance.

One of the finest wins Blades have had was suitably toasted along with the attending OSC, WAGS and Blades Youth at the Cleveland Bay… Allez Les Blades!
