Clouds greeted The Blades for the inaugural fixture vs St Giles at North Walls Winchester
The opponents won the toss and donned the pads. In a gloomy 16 overs, The Blades managed to peg them back, Meering taking two wickets, and St Giles amassed a gettable total of 104 for 5.
After a rain shower which continues as drizzle for most of the second innings, The Blades took to the pool crease. A slow start increased in pace with opener Underwood helping himself to an unbeaten 27, whilst Hurst grabbed 23 before being bowled. A moment of history towards the end saw Whitears Junior and Senior bat together, The Blades’ first father-and-son partnership in the middle, but even Jaws and the Chairman could not reach the target. A brave Blades effort fell 14 runs short as the innings closed on 90 for 5.
