It was 10 v 10 on the top postage stamp of the Sporty. Shirley won the boss and put Blades in. Toon and Farmer both hit 25 and came back to the pavilion as the vistors raced to 69 for no loss. The lower order came a little unstuck however, and the two openers returning to the crease could not prevent the Blades closing on 115 from 18 overs.
Shirley started at a similar pace before Lowe and Terry turned the screw with a wicket each. Blades looked good in the field but Shirley’s knowledge of their home ground and their use of the “twat it at the fence” tactic paid dividends. Farmer took 3 for 20 but couldn’t prevent Shirley overhauling the total with two overs to spare. 119 for 6.
RESULT: Shirley WIN by 4 wickets
